Carnival Destiny 2029: Everything We Know About Carnival's Biggest Ship Ever

Carnival Destiny 2029: Carnival's Biggest Ship EVER! Here's Everything We Know So Far!

Carnival is going BIG... and I mean REALLY BIG!!

Carnival Cruise Line has officially announced Carnival Destiny, an entirely new generation of cruise ship scheduled to debut in summer 2029! And when I say new, I don't just mean a bigger version of Mardi Gras or Carnival Celebration. We're talking about a completely new class of ship, with more than 70% of its venues and attractions featuring concepts never before seen on Carnival!

At approximately 230,000 gross tons and with room for nearly 8,000 guests, Carnival Destiny will become the largest cruise ship Carnival has EVER built!

As someone who has cruised extensively with Carnival and experienced its Excel Class ships firsthand, I'm especially excited to see where the cruise line takes things next!

Let's take a look at everything we know so far, what's still a mystery, and why November 2026 could be a VERY exciting month for Carnival fans!

How Big Will Carnival Destiny Be?

Let's start with the size, because this ship is going to be MASSIVE!

Carnival Destiny will measure approximately 230,000 gross tons, making it around 27% larger than Mardi Gras by gross tonnage.

The ship will also feature over 3,000 guest staterooms and accommodate nearly 8,000 passengers at full capacity.

To put that into perspective, Carnival's current Excel Class ships are already enormous, with impressive dining, entertainment, and outdoor areas. Destiny will take things to an entirely different level!

  • Debut: Summer 2029
  • Ship Class: Ace Class — an entirely new generation for Carnival
  • Size: Approximately 230,000 gross tons
  • Guest Capacity: Nearly 8,000 at full occupancy
  • Staterooms: More than 3,000
  • Shipyard: Fincantieri in Monfalcone, Italy
  • Power: Liquefied natural gas (LNG)
  • Sister Ships: Two additional Ace Class ships scheduled for 2031 and 2033

Carnival Destiny vs. Mardi Gras: How Much Bigger Is It?

If you've sailed Mardi Gras, Carnival Celebration, or Carnival Jubilee, you already know how impressive Carnival's newest ships can be.

But Carnival Destiny will be another step up in size!

Destiny figures are preliminary and subject to change.

Here's what I find particularly interesting: Carnival isn't just trying to build a larger ship. They're changing how passengers will experience the ship itself.

And that leads to what might be the most exciting part of Destiny!

More Ocean Views Than Ever Before!

One thing that stands out about Carnival Destiny is its design.

While many modern megaships focus heavily on inward-facing attractions and entertainment areas, Carnival is taking a different approach with Destiny.

The company is describing the ship as its most outward-facing megaship yet, with a focus on keeping the ocean visible throughout the ship.

Some of the announced features include:

  • More than 4.5 acres of glass, including massive multistory glass walls.
  • An unprecedented number of ocean-view balcony staterooms, offering more opportunities to enjoy the sea from your own cabin.
  • A completely reimagined Lanai deck, designed to create a closer connection to the ocean.
  • More outward-facing public spaces, with expansive views throughout the ship.

I LOVE this concept!

One thing I appreciate about cruising is simply being out on the ocean. Whether that's enjoying breakfast with a view, relaxing outside, or watching the sunset, those moments are some of my favorites.

I'm very curious to see how Carnival incorporates all of this into a ship carrying nearly 8,000 passengers!

More Than 70% NEW Dining, Entertainment, Bars, and Attractions!

This is probably the most exciting announcement so far!

Carnival says more than 70% of Carnival Destiny's venues and attractions will introduce concepts that are new to Carnival Cruise Line.

That's a pretty significant departure from what we've seen with recent new ships.

Carnival has confirmed that the changes will include new dining concepts, bars, lounges, entertainment, and outdoor spaces.

However, the cruise line hasn't revealed exactly what those experiences will be just yet.

One thing I'll be watching especially closely is the dining!

Anyone who follows Caribbean Breeze Travel knows how much I appreciate Carnival's variety of complimentary dining options. It's one of the things I think Carnival does better than most cruise lines!

I'm really hoping Destiny continues that tradition while introducing some exciting new restaurants and experiences.

And what about the big attractions? Will we see another roller coaster, a massive waterpark, or something completely different?

We don't know yet, but with so many new concepts planned, there are plenty of possibilities!

Why the Name Carnival Destiny Is So Significant

Here's a fun piece of Carnival history that makes this announcement even more interesting!

This isn't the first Carnival Destiny.

The original Carnival Destiny debuted in 1996 as the world's largest cruise ship, becoming the first passenger vessel to exceed 100,000 gross tons.

That was a HUGE milestone for the cruise industry at the time!

In 2013, the original Destiny underwent a major transformation and was renamed Carnival Sunshine, a ship that's still part of Carnival's fleet today.

Now, more than 30 years after the original ship debuted, Carnival is bringing the Destiny name back for another record-breaking ship.

I actually love that Carnival continues bringing back historic ship names, including Mardi Gras, Celebration, Jubilee, Festivale, and Tropicale.

There's something pretty neat about combining Carnival's history with the future of cruising!

Where Will Carnival Destiny Sail in 2029?

Carnival has confirmed that Destiny will visit destinations within its Paradise Collection, featuring exclusive cruise destinations throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico.

That sounds pretty exciting, especially with Carnival continuing to invest heavily in its private destinations!

Destinations within this collection include Celebration Key, RelaxAway Half Moon Cay, and Isla Tropicale in Roatán, but Carnival has not confirmed which specific ports will appear on Destiny's itineraries.

We also don't know where Carnival Destiny will be homeported.

Could it sail from Port Canaveral? Miami? Galveston? Somewhere else?

For now, we'll have to wait for Carnival to make that announcement!

When Will Carnival Destiny Cruises Be Available to Book?

As of October 2026, Carnival has not announced when Carnival Destiny reservations will open.

Although the ship is expected to debut in summer 2029, we still need several important details before sailings become available.

  1. Homeport announcement: Where will Carnival Destiny sail from?
  2. Inaugural sailing date: When will the very first Carnival Destiny cruise depart?
  3. Itineraries: Which Caribbean, Bahamas, and Mexico destinations will be included?
  4. New onboard features: What restaurants, bars, entertainment, and attractions will Carnival introduce?
  5. Booking release date: When can guests officially reserve their Carnival Destiny cruise?

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on all of this as more information becomes available!

Could We Get a BIG Carnival Destiny Announcement in November 2026?

Now here's where things get REALLY interesting!! 👀

There's been some buzz that Carnival could reveal much more about Destiny next month, in November 2026!

And this isn't just a completely random rumor!

During an interview with Carnival Brand Ambassador John Heald following the ship's July 2026 reveal, Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy indicated that the next major update would probably arrive in November.

So while we don't have an officially confirmed date or details of a presentation, there's a very real possibility that we could learn more about Carnival Destiny VERY soon!

Could we get our first look at the new restaurants? Entertainment? Attractions? Maybe even some details about where the ship will sail?

It's all speculation at this point, but I am definitely excited to see what Carnival has planned!

Is Bigger Always Better? My Thoughts on Carnival Destiny

I've been fortunate enough to sail on quite a few Carnival ships over the years, including their Excel Class, and I've really enjoyed watching the cruise line evolve.

But one thing I've learned from all my cruising is that the biggest ship doesn't automatically mean the best cruise experience.

For me, it's about the entire experience — the food, entertainment, service, ship layout, and how enjoyable everything feels onboard.

With nearly 8,000 passengers, I'm particularly interested in how Carnival will manage crowds, dining venues, embarkation, and public spaces.

I'm also REALLY curious to see how all these new features come together while keeping the fun, laid-back Carnival atmosphere that so many of us love!

I'm excited about the SIZE of Carnival Destiny, but I'm even more excited to see what Carnival does with all that extra space! More dining options, innovative entertainment, and great ocean views could make this a very special ship. I just hope Carnival continues doing the things that already make cruising with them so much fun!
