A cruise port on the island of Roatan with a private beach, colorful reef snorkeling and easy access to wildlife and West Bay Beach.

Mahogany Bay is a cruise port on Roatan, the largest of Honduras's Bay Islands, near the town of Coxen Hole. Ships dock right at the port, which has shops and a short chairlift ride to its own beach.
Roatan sits on the Mesoamerican Reef, so the snorkeling and diving are wonderful. It suits beach lovers, snorkelers and families, especially anyone who wants to see sloths and monkeys up close.
Here are my favorite ways to spend a cruise day in Mahogany Bay. Each one opens on Viator, where you can check the times, reviews and price before you book.

Hold sloths and meet monkeys at a wildlife sanctuary, then taste local chocolate and rum on a tour of Roatan that fits easily into a port day.

An easy one-hour horseback ride near the Mahogany Bay cruise center, through tropical trails with island views. Great for beginners.

Snorkel three of Roatan's best spots in one trip: a sunken shipwreck, starfish-filled shallows and the Blue Channel reef.
View detailsMy favorites: ride the chairlift to the port's own beach at Mahogany Bay; snorkel the Mesoamerican Reef, the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere; relax on the soft white sand of West Bay Beach; explore the laid-back waterfront village of West End; learn about Garifuna culture in the community of Punta Gorda.
Honduran lempira; US dollars are widely accepted.
The port beach is right there, and West Bay is a longer taxi ride across the island, so most people use taxis or tours.
